The Heart Sutra is one of the most famous and recited texts throughout the Buddhist world. But what does it really mean? During this weekend workshop we will explore this text and discover our own personal version of the sutra as a contemplative tool for our daily life.
MITRA KARL BRUNNHÖLZL was born in Munich, Germany and was originally trained, and worked, as a physician. Karl completed a five-year training in higher Buddhist philosophy at Kamalashila Institute, Germany, receiving the traditional Kagyü title of “dharma tutor” (Tib. skyor dpon). Karl is also a Mitra (senior teacher) in Nalandabodhi, the lineage of Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, and one of the main teachers at Nitartha Institute. He has authored several texts published by Snow Lion Publications including Luminous Heart: The Third Karmapa on Consciousness, Wisdom, and Buddha Nature. His latest book is The Heart Attack Sutra.

Mitra Karl Brunnholzl was born in Munich, Germany and was originally trained, and worked, as a physician. He took Buddhist refuge vows in 1984 and, in 1990, completed a five-year training in higher Buddhist philosophy at Kamalashila Institute, Germany, receiving the traditional Kagyü title of “dharma tutor” (Tib. skyor dpon). In 2006, he moved to Seattle where he works as a full-time Tibetan translator for Tsadra Foundation. Karl is also a Mitra (senior teacher) in Nalandabodhi, the lineage of Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, and one of the main teachers at Nitartha Institute.
Karl is the author of several texts published by Snow Lion Publications: the Madhyamaka compendium, The Center of the Sunlit Sky, In Praise of Dharmadhatu by Nagarjuna with a commentary by the Third Karmapa, Straight From the Heart: Buddhist Pith Instructions, and Luminous Heart: The Third Karmapa on Consciousness, Wisdom, and Buddha Nature. His latest book is The Heart Attack Sutra.
